Motion Tracking (Match-Moving) Tests

Getting Familiar With Tracking/Solving Software And Cinema 4D Integration

This was an exercise to strengthen my understanding of software designed to analyze and compile motion data from handheld video clips, giving me the freedom to impose 3D forms, lighting, physics and animation into live-action video. Ultimately, Voodoo Motion Tracker became the most accessible and effective tool available at the time and allowed me to begin refining a technical method and experiment with different techniques and ideas. These are test clips from around the house, different surfaces and objects I focused on and felt I could augment with simple 3D forms and animation.

Summary

Voodoo Motion Tracker / Cinema 4D / After Effects

Filmed various test shots. Configured Voodoo Motion Tracker. Imported data to Cinema 4D. Synced video file. Imposed 3D elements. Final Compositing in After Effects.

I used sound effectors in C4D to animate virtual forms, inline with the beat of an instrumental track. Some forms stood alone, such as the screw-like objects shown to the right. And others augmented a real-world object, like the old projector or remote control below. I could rough model surfaces and objects in the original video clip, allowing the modeled forms to create reflections and cast shadows in the space.
