Self ( ) Series
For Artist Gary Hill
Roll: Design Development/Specifications, Fabrication
Hired by the artist to help build the mixed-media sculptural series. The forms were fabricated with acrylic plastic and their interiors were fitted with conical spy cameras, lcd screens, relay switches, power supply’s and Arduino micro-controllers. I supplied renderings and specifications, as well as built mock-ups and fitted the interior layouts of the final forms. Custom lens setups were calibrated for all of the view-ports. Viewers are meant to peer into the lenses of the various forms, seeing close up sections of their bodies, which are being filmed by the interior cameras and fed to the lcd screens. Works shown at James Harris Gallery (Seattle, WA) and in other international exhibitions.
“…The titles of the five works tell us something—SELF A continuing on alphabetically through SELF F with the exception of SELF E or in vernacular terminology, ‘selfie.’…”

“…A conflicting realization that the very intimacy of self (…) is rendered as mere texture and that which we identify as “self,” our face and its expression, has disappeared…”
