Hand-manipulated 35mm film negatives

I wanted to develop a textural base for use in video applications, as well as large format images for printing. Inspired by the works of Stan Brakhage, I began to paint, collage, scratch and work the film in different ways, keeping the idea of it being backlit in mind. I then shot images through a make-shift magnification rig and collected shots from the base of film I had modified. Pictured are some select images.
